Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

PUAFIR326 - Push trees with machines in forest fire control operations

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Plan to push tree

  1. Obtain briefing and confirm work to be undertaken
  2. Hazardous tree marking system is interpreted and actioned for each tree
  3. Tree is assessed for suitability for pushing with machinery
  4. Topographical factors and vegetation are considered when planning to push tree using machinery
  5. Environmental, cultural and heritage factors are considered in relation to area where trees will be pushed
  6. Approval is sought and gained for tree to be pushed with machinery
  7. Hazards and safe clearances are established around trees selected for pushing with machinery
  8. Escape routes are identified, in accordance with organisational procedures
  9. Support personnel are warned of tree to be pushed with machinery
  10. Communication is maintained with ground crew during tree pushing operations
  11. Ground is prepared for tree pushing with machinery
  12. Direction of tree fall is determined
  13. Tree is pushed with machinery applying safe tree pushing practices
  14. Apply fireground emergency procedures
Obtain briefing and confirm work to be undertaken
